US Marshall Jack Carter wants to bring his torn out daughter to Los Angeles. However, there he suffers from flight fear, he goes by the car straight through the USA. On account of a car accident he lands with his daughter Zoe in the small city of Eureka. What he does not know: Eureka is a settlement specially built by the US government to allow researches to the scientific élite of the land in complete silence. In the course of the Pilots it is revealed that the accident was provoked by a failed experiment, whereupon Carter is appointed by the clarification of the incident to the city sheriff (his predecessor is incapacitated on account of an accident). The story-technical basic scaffolding of the series are the single adventures of the main protagonists (Carter and Zoe) who argue with the out of control advisable, very modern inventions of the scientists, but within an episode again everything hinbiegen
